2-3 DAY ITINERARY
On your first day, visit the Summerville Visitor Center (402 N. Main St.) The Visitor Center staff will let you know what events might be happening during your stay. Pick up some free brochures and a free walking tour brochure for a stroll through Summerville's historic district. How about a round or two of golf? Perhaps the family would like to go kayaking or horseback riding? After your favorite outdoor activity, relax and take a leisurely stroll through Azalea Park. Marvel at the amazing sculptures that are strategically placed throughout the park. After dinner, enjoy a performance at the James F. Dean Community Theatre or a movie at Movies at Azalea Square movie theatre.

On your second or third day, we suggest immersing yourself in history. If you have several hours, a visit to Middleton Place, a historic plantation and a National Historic Landmark, offers a fascinating look at plantation life and the survival of a beautiful property through revolution, Civil War, and earthquakes. Opt for the House Museum tour along with the Gardens and Stableyards if you go. It is open daily (except major holidays).

Or if time is short, visit Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site. An archaeological treasure, the park rests on the site of Dorchester, a trading town that flourished on the Ashley River from 1697 through the Revolutionary War. Another fascinating site is the Old Santee Canal Park. On historic Stony Landing Plantation, the park marks the last mile of America’s first “true” canal. Four miles of boardwalks. Canoe rentals, too.

On your third day, how about shopping or antiquing in downtown Summerville and the surrounding area? The Summerville Visitor Center can give you a map of all the antique shops. And if shopping isn't your "thing," we suggest trying yet another golf course for 18 holes of fun! Then meet your significant other at Woodlands Resort & Inn for an elegant and memorable lunch or dinner. This is a 5-star property and you'll experience the very best dining and accommodations here.

If there's time after lunch, stop in at the Summerville Dorchester Museum and learn a bit of local history (open Thurs-Sat 10-2). Or visit another fascinating plantation, Drayton Hall, the oldest preserved plantation house (c. 1738) in America that is open to the public. It is open daily (except major holidays) and offers one of the most fascinating house tours you'll ever experience.

Inn at Middleton Place
The Inn at Middleton Place is another option for overnight accommodations.
